One day, a well-known politician met a highly respected elderly master. Being arrogant (as most politicians are) he wanted to show that he was the superior person.
As their conversation continued, he asked the master, “Old monk, do you know what I think of you and the things you’ve said?”
The master replied, “What you think of me is not my concern. You are entitled to have your own opinion.”
The politician huffed, “Well I’ll tell you what I think anyway. In my eyes, you are just like a pile of dry shit.”
The master simply smiled and stayed quiet.
Seeing that his insult had fallen onto deaf ears, the politician asked, “And what do you think of me?”
The master continued smiling and replied, “In my eyes, you are just like the Buddha.”
After hearing this, the politician felt superior. He went home and bragged to his wife about the conversation.
His wife said to him, “You conceited fool! When a person has a heart like a pile of dry shit, he sees everyone in that light. The elderly master has a heart like the Buddha. That is why in his eyes everyone, including you, is like the Buddha.”
[pregnant pause for effect]
Ya know, it took me more than half a century to figure that out. But since that time, EVERYTHING has gotten sooooooooo much better. My business, my marriage, my relationships… EVERYTHING.
You see, if you take the time to examine your life, you’ll discover something surprising:
Whatever it is that you are… whatever is in your heart… you will see in others.
And that means this:
No matter how much you might want to, you can’t hide your true self.
Because what you are is what you’ll see and find in the world.
Just a lil’ sumpin’ sumpin’ you might wanna keep in mind before judging another person.
All the best,
