The YouTube 30-Day Challenge Has Begun!

Dear Friend,

Remember when I told you about my new little social media/marketing test in this post?

Well, it has begun.

The idea is to see how much free traffic (and hopefully new DD.com subscribers) I can generate from YouTube.

Right now is an incredibly inconvenient and stressful time in my life to start a new project… but there is never a perfect time to get something new started. There are ALWAYS challenges to deal with. If you wait for the perfect time, you’ll never start anything. You just have to get started regardless of the challenges.

So here’s video#1.

And I’ve already learned something…

I am definitely out of my comfort zone appearing on video. Put a guitar in my hand or let me goof around and be silly and I enjoy it… but this kind of stuff… not so much. In fact, I think that comes across in the video. I look like I’m uncomfortable.

Whatever.

Just like everything else I’ve ever done, I’m just going to put the blinders on and do it. Hopefully I’ll get better as I go along.

Enjoy!

All the best,

P.S. The video quality is very high on the original file. I wonder why it looks so grainy on YouTube?

Great job, Dan! I didn't notice any nervousness. By the end of the 30 days you'll be a pro anyway.

Hi Dan,

It's never a "convenient" time to get started with something, but it's always a good time.

I noticed that your video doesn't have a HD option on Youtube. So for whatever reason you didn't upload it in 720p format. This is likely because you didn't export it from your camcorder in an high definition option. This is likely part of the reason you look a little grainy. There are other possibilities as well. Email me and we might dig a little to find the problem.

Hey Dan,

First, you look fine in front of the camera, but …

I have to throw this out here, and maybe I am missing the entire point of your 30 day YouTube challenge, and while I understand this is your introductory video –

Had I not already been a loyal follower and viewed this video … never having known who you are and what you stand for …

I would be wondering –

Whats In It For Me? … Why should I become a subscriber? Is this Doberman Dan guy just gonna flood my inbox with flip cam offers … whats his angle?

ALSO – You have no click-able link in your bio, although dobermandan.com is easy to remember put a link in there anyway :D

ALSO – You have no click-able link in your description that resides next to your video. (many youtubers miss this opportunity)

YouTube makes 1 link in each video description clickable so video viewers are one click away from your site but be sure to include the – http://

This should be something like – Visit http://dobermandan.com for more fool proof (hell, your the copywriter, fill in the blanks -lol) JUST be sure to put the link in the beginning so it functions properly. (test with or without if you choose)

The only things in your description – DD YouTube 30-day Challenge #1 with any search volume are – doberman (so far so good) – DD ( you don't have those -lol) – 30-day Challenge( your video isn't quite relative to the searchers intent as most are looking for Ed Dale material).

Subscribers to your blog and list are interested in your honest tips and methods regarding business building, picking ones self up from failure by believing in themselves, copywriting, motivation, etc.

You have a lot to offer Dan, and people search YouTube for tutorials, tips, methods, etc.

For instance, you have some amazing thoughts and CREDIBALITY on building a business from the ground up from ones kitchen table. Why not do a 30 day challenge to engage your viewers to work along with you as you lay out the ground work?

Kitchen Table Entrepreneur's 30 Day Challenge etc.

This would compel anyone to visit your site for more info and get updates from you AND ethically siphon a bit of "30 Day Challenge" searches.

It may even warrant a separate landing page relevant to your YouTube offer.

Just my 2 cents, and perhaps I have this all wrong. Regardless, I hope all works out for the best as you have been an inspiration my friend.

Regards,

B.

Good stuff, Barry. I had no idea you could do a clickable link on YouTube. See, I'm already learning something.

Dan,

Congratulations on the 30 Day Challenge kick off. I agree with Brandon — I don't sense any nervousness at all. You'll be fine.

I like that you went with the zi8. Does your lavalier mic hook straight into it, or is it a wireless set up?

Reply

dobermandan March 19, 2010 at 10:15 pm

Hi Dan,

It's not a wireless mic. It just has a long cord. I got it at Radio Shack for around $30.

Dan,
You looked more poised and comfortable as the movie played on. That's because you got into what you wanted to talk about and then it comes natural. Forget about the camera and just speak as if talking to a friend or someone on the internet.
Dan Przyojski.

P.S. Take it from me. No matter what you do or say in the video some idiot on Youtube is gonna make a nasty comment. Check mine out if you want proof!

If you can do it even I should be able to lol

I would suggest you don't actually say you are doing to get free traffic though .. might put off the traffic ;)
