I've been thinking about this a lot since I wrote the post, Owen.

We won't know this for sure unless we ask John, but I think a lot of being a master wordsmith is mostly about input and practice. If you're constantly inputting (reading, listening and watching) high quality stuff from other wordsmiths… and practicing it in your daily writing and conversations… I think that's the key.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to ask John about it and we'll see what he says.

I've always been a little envious of the guys who can grab those punchy lines out of thin air. It's just something about the way their minds work, I guess.

Another place you can find some great phrases is in the songs from the '30's and '40's. Like "The Best Is Yet to Come": "You think you've seen the sun but you ain't seen it shine." A good analogy for any improvement.

Congrats, Dan, on being Bond's chosen one. It shows me that Gary must have had a lot of respect for you as an apprentice, that the next generation of Halberts sees you as a master craftsman.
